2024 LeGrow Family FCGSC Scholarship Award Recipients
One of two recipients this year is Lauren Ayotte, of Bristol CT. Lauren is the daughter of Louis and Sarah Ayotte, and the granddaughter of FCGSC member, Robert Cummiskey.
In the Fall Lauren will attend Western New England University and will study Criminal Justice. Lauren mentioned in her essay, after learning about her ancestors, that ". . . if you stick together you can accomplish amazing things such as what Alexandre did when founding Madawaska." Her pride in her family shows through!
Congratulations to Lauren! We wish her success in her education and future endeavors .
Congratulations also go to Laura Farquhar of Killingly, CT. She is the daughter of Marcia and Scott Farquhar, and the granddaughter of FCGSC member Susan Griffiths.
Laura will attend Johnson and Wales University and will study Health Science, specifically Occupational Therapy. In her essay, Laura says, "In my eyes, the most important thing to note is the growth that took place in subsequent generations. The stigma of being looked upon as 2nd class citizens in the French-Canadian community is not common today as it was in my ancestors' lives. I have never felt ashamed of my heritage . . ." Her praise of her family is consistantly mentioned.
Congratulations to Laura! We wish her success in her education and future endeavors!
Editor's note: There is a reoccurring theme in both of these young ladies' essays that is so refreshing. They both value their families! This shines through as they discuss their ancestors in their essays. Coincidentally, both are avid athletes, as well as scholars. We proudly welcome you both aboard the family of the French-Canadian Geneological Society of CT.
