2025 LeGrow Family FCGSC Scholarship Award Recipients

One of three recipients this year is Laura Farquhar, of Killingly CT. Laura is the daughter of Marcia and Elias G. "Scott" Farquhar III, and the granddaughter of FCGSC member, Susan Griffiths.
FCGSC congratulates Laura on a very successful freshman year at Johnson and Wales University and a well deserved renewal of the LeGrow Family Scholarship. Her major is Health Science, specifically Occupational Therapy. Laura also plays soccer at JWU and is pictured in her soccer uniform. In her essay, Laura reflected on the hardships experienced by immigrants. "My understanding of my ancestors' hardships and victories has grown as a result of writing this essay and talking to my Memere. Loss of language, stability, and a sense of belonging are common outcomes of immigration."
Congratulations to Laura! We wish her success in her education and future endeavors.

Congratulations also go to Kaya Nichols of Woodstock, CT. She is the daughter of Amy Bonneau, and the granddaughter of FCGSC members Phyllis and Ray Bonneau. Kaya graduated from Woodstock Academy receiving Outstanding Academic Excellence in the Outstanding Presidential Awards Program.
Kaya will attend the University of Connecticut and will study Exercise Science, specifically Physical Therapy. In her essay, Kaya says, "I have always been interested in where my family originated from and learning about the Filles du Roi helped me understand what the women have gone through. I am proud of my French Canadian Heritage."
Congratulations to Kaya! We wish her success in her education and future endeavors!

And congratulations to Bella Pramanik of Middletown, CT. She is the daughter of member, Marama and David Pramanik. Bella graduated with honors from Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy.

In her essay, Bella reflected on the Fille du Roi and stated " . . . now a vibrant mix of French heritage and Canadian traditions, manifesting itself in their rich religious customs, music and arts, and cuisine (Which I am very thankful for because I love poitine!). These inspiring women shaped the modern French-Canadian society that we know today, and we have them to thank for their bravery and perseverance."
Congratulations to Bella! We wish her success in her education and future endeavors!
Editor's note: These three young ladies are all interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) careers. How fitting as these are male dominated fields and two of the three scholarship recipients discussed the Fille du Roi who braved a difficult journey to start a new life in New France.
